NHERI@UC San Diego User Training Workshop
December 16–17, 2024 | 8:30am–6:00pm PDT
Workshop Overview
You are invited to attend the NHERI@UC San Diego User Training Workshop to be held December 16-17, 2024. This workshop is being organized by the U.S. National Science Foundation's (NSF) Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Equipment Facility at the University of California, San Diego.
The workshop will be an in-person event. Presentations and discussion sessions during the workshop will:
- Showcase the features and capabilities of the 6-DOF LHPOST6 supporting advanced earthquake engineering research;
- Highlight resources and equipment available to researchers at NHERI@UC San Diego LHPOST6;
- Discuss and brainstorm on the latest trends in shake table testing of structural systems, geotechnical systems, and soil-structure interaction to inspire future research projects using the facility;
- Learn about the resources and capabilities of NHERI SimCenter and DesignSafe, and brainstorm on possible collaborations with other NHERI facilities;
- Explore opportunities to use the NHERI@UC San Diego LHPOST6 facility for various types of NSF proposals and provide researchers with information on best practices for proposal preparation.
The workshop will include a tour of the NHERI@UC San Diego LHPOST6 facility and the specimen under construction. Videos will be shown on the newly upgraded 6-DOF shake table in motion. There is no cost to attend this workshop, but workshop registration is required. We welcome participants from industry and academia, including senior graduate students or post-docs working with faculty on research projects or proposals.
Limited funding is available to support in-person attendance, with funding priority given to junior and mid-career academics with an active interest in submitting proposals for research that utilizes the LHPOST6 facility at UC San Diego. Please register as soon as possible for highest consideration.
Additional information about the facility and ongoing research projects at UC San Diego can be found at: https://nheri.ucsd.edu/. Questions regarding the workshop may be directed to Koorosh Lotfizadeh (klotfiza@ucsd.edu) or John McCartney (mccartney@ucsd.edu). We look forward to your participation in our upcoming workshop!
